LED underwater spotlights.
For illumination of fountains, pools and ponds.
General information, recommendations for selection and installation.
When choosing lighting equipment for lighting your fountains, ponds or swimming pools, you should pay special attention to the choice of spotlights, connecting wires, couplings and boxes according to the type of moisture protection and the possibility of their use under water.
Below we will consider the main types of LED floodlights for underwater installation produced by our company and the methods of their installation and connection.
Of course, any pond, fountain, pool or waterfall is significantly transformed when equipped with lighting equipment. Correctly selected spotlights and lamps allow you to turn your pond into an object of admiration and admiration, near which you can spend your free time. Today, the best option for use in fountains and pools are LED spotlights , as they provide a long service life, low energy consumption and are completely electrically safe.
Our company offers underwater floodlights of the KH-DW series with protection class IP68, which can be installed underwater at a depth of up to 3-5 meters.
All spotlights have secondary optics* (focusing lenses) with different beam angles from 5 to 60 degrees.
* What is the purpose of secondary optics? The use of secondary optics allows you to focus the light flux of the LED on the illuminated area, thereby significantly increasing the efficiency of the floodlight as a whole by eliminating light loss due to scattering from reflectors and housing walls. That is, a floodlight not equipped with secondary optics can have a wider beam opening, but its brightness will be lower by 30% to 60%. Secondary optics also vary both in price and in properties. Our company uses high-quality secondary optics made of glass and optical polycarbonate with a light transmittance of at least 95%. Inexpensive lenses made of inexpensive plastic with a light transmittance of 70-72% are available on the market. The use of such lenses is highly undesirable, since these lenses only limit the beam opening angle, but due to high losses, they practically nullify, and sometimes worsen, the light flux and brightness of the product as a whole.
To understand the brightness of LED floodlights, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the luminous intensity curves of our floodlights in comparison with a conventional 150W metal halide floodlight. It is worth noting that a conventional super-powerful LED not equipped with secondary optics has a beam angle of 120-160 degrees and provides a luminous flux equivalent to a halogen lamp approximately 8-10 times greater in power. In other words, a 5W LED lamp will shine approximately like a 40-50W halogen lamp. The use of secondary optics allows you to significantly increase the efficiency of the lamp and a 5-watt LED floodlight with 30 degree lenses will already provide the same brightness as a 150-watt halogen lamp. This is clearly visible in the diagram below.

!!! The main difference between the WG31, WG75 and L11 housings is that the power supply in the KH-DW**-WG models is supplied to a separate sealed chamber of the LED floodlight. This chamber has a plug on one side or a sealing cuff (included) for a feed-through cable in case of a series connection of several floodlights. That is, using these floodlights , you can avoid using branch couplings and cable boxes, which significantly simplifies installation and reduces its cost in general. Connection of underwater floodlights of the KH-DW**-L11 type is made to the existing cable end from each floodlight. When connecting several floodlights to one line, it is necessary to use branch couplings or boxes that can provide reliable waterproofing of the system. When connecting one floodlight, the junction of the floodlight cable and your electric cable must be sealed using special connecting couplings. Read more in the section on the features of underwater installation.
In addition to the models presented, we can manufacture underwater LED floodlights and equipment according to your order. In almost any proposed configurations and housings. We are waiting for your orders.
Installation and connection.
To connect underwater LED floodlights and equipment, use a KVV cable (GOST 1508-78) or foreign analogues.
To connect cables, we recommend using Raychem BV-0-GD connecting sleeves (with Guroflex filler). In these sleeves, the cable cores are connected to each other using an insulated Guro connector block. The shockproof sleeve body consists of two halves with latches, made of transparent polycarbonate with a polymer seal along the edges. The body is easy and quick to install without the need for adjustments to the cable diameter. After installation, the sleeve is filled with Guroflex filler, included in the delivery set, through a filling funnel. Gel filler: The filler is designed to protect the connection point from moisture. Filling the sleeve body, it displaces moisture. It has insulating and hydrophobic properties. It has excellent dielectric characteristics and provides excellent corrosion protection. 2-component material based on hydrocarbonate mastic.
If there is a need to make cable routing underwater, it is necessary to use sealed distribution boxes with protection class IP68. For example, those shown in the figure below:
Waterproof distribution box J-Box IP68
JBox-A - recommended diameter of connected cable 7.5-10.5mm
JBox-S - recommended diameter of connected cable 5.5-8.5mm.
Taking into account some difficulties in finding and purchasing such boxes, we have positive experience in using KKV-07 distribution cable boxes.
This box is made of aluminum alloy and has a protection class of IP67, it is ideal if the wiring is above the water level, which is generally preferable, because in case of any work with lighting equipment, there will be no need to drain the water. Also, our experience shows that these boxes can be used underwater, if you fill it inside with, for example, Guroflex filler, also when using underwater, an additional protective multi-layer coating of the case is required, for example, acrylic varnish. But in any case, the performer does all this at his own peril and risk, since the use of KKV-07 couplings does not provide for their use under water.
Service
Underwater lighting systems require special care. If these systems are installed in street fountains, they are prone to overgrowing of glass with various algae, and the use of various aggressive additives can disable and destroy the housings of connecting fittings. Therefore, at least once a month, it is necessary to carry out preventive cleaning of the glass and housings of spotlights, as well as to inspect connecting cables, couplings of boxes and other equipment for integrity and tightness. When operating systems at sub-zero temperatures, water should be drained from the reservoir, the lighting equipment should be dried and covered with opaque polyethylene film to protect it from the harmful effects of the external environment in winter.
